OTHER IN-HOUSE PROBATION DEPARTMENT PROGRAMS
Ignition Interlock Program
The Ignition Interlock Program is designed to prevent D.U.I. offenders from operating motor vehicles while under the influence of alcohol. The Probation Department is responsible for facilitating the installation and monitoring of ignition locks placed on offenders vehicles. The defendant is responsible for the cost of the program. For additional information call Joel at 333-4393.
HIV Testing Program
The HIV Testing Program provides a measure of safety in our community. Offenders covicted of prostitution and other related offenses are ordered to be tested for H.I.V. The Montgomery County Combined Health District provides the testing and forwards the results to a designee in the department and to appropriate agencies. Individuals testing positive are assisted in the process of medical treatment, counseling and other supportive services.
Home Detention/Monitoring
The Home Incarceration Program is utilized by the Judges as a viable sentencing alternative to conventional incarceration. The offender is placed on an electronic transmitter which monitors his/her presence to a restricted area. Actual equipment installation and monitoring of the defendant is done by Probation Department staff. The cost of this home incarceration is the responsibility of the offender. In 2003, 84 defendants were sentenced to the Home Incarceration Program. For additional information call Clayton at 333-4391.
Probation Fees
In 1995 the Probation Department implemented a program whereby each defendant placed on supervised probation pays a monthly $15.00 probation fee as a condition to probation. The funds generated from probation fees are appropriated to maintain current in house programs, as well as to develop and implement other treatment oriented programs. In 2003, $48,771.38 in probation fees was collected.
Psychological Services
The Probation Department is staffed with a part-time Clinical Psychologist and a psychology doctoral candidate. The Pschologist performs psycological evaluations as well as competency evaluations for the Dayton Municipal Court. Individual counseling sessions are also available for clients who could benefit from more personalized counseling.
The Life Skills Group offers in-house weekly counseling sessions for probationers suffering from emotional/psychological problems. Our Clinical Psychologist facilitates the Life Skills Group.
Urinalysis Drug Testing Program
The Urinalysis Drug Testing Program is an essential tool for identifying offenders abusing illicit drugs. This testing is conducted on-site and provides immediate results to assist probation officers in determining the most effective treatment and sanctions.
Victim/Offender Mediation Program

This joint effort between the court and Dayton Mediation Center provides a forum for the victim and offender to meet in a controlled setting facilitated by trained mediators.
